How to Stop Apps From Running in the Background on Windows 10

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to stop apps from running in the background on Windows 10.

In Windows 10, you should know that some applications are likely to run in the background. This means that they work and perform operations without their window being displayed. This allows these applications to continue to receive information, send you notifications and stay up to date.

However, if you don’t use some of these applications, there’s no reason to leave them running in the background on your computer. By disabling them, not only will you save energy, but you will also gain some precious system resources. This can be a good thing especially if you have a laptop or a PC with little power.

Things to keep in mind before disabling applications

Before you go into a panic to disable all background applications, I want to make several things clear:

  • Disabling background apps does not stop apps from running. You will still be able to run and use them. It will only prevent its applications from downloading data, using your CPU and RAM power, but also consuming battery power when you are not using them.
  • Once an application is disabled, you will not receive any notification from it.
  • Some of these applications depend on running in the background to provide their basic services. For example, if you disable the Alarms & Clock application, the alarm will not go off when you set it.
