How to Backup and Restore Registry in Windows 10

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to backup and restore registry in Windows 10. You know it is very important to regularly back up the data on your computer, but did you know that it is just as important to back up the Windows registry? The registry is the database that contains all the configuration options and settings of Windows. When a virus hits your computer, it is often the first place it infects. So it’s good to have a small copy on hand just in case, you never know…

But before we move on to backing up the Windows registry, I recommend that you perform a small registry cleanup using CCleaner software. This will ensure that all unnecessary registry entries left behind by third-party software are removed.

How to Backup and Restore Registry in Windows 10

Step 1: Press Windows + R keys simultaneously to open the Run dialog box. Then type regedit and confirm with OK.

Step 2: If you want to save the entire Registry, click on “Computer” at the top of the navigation pane or if you just want to save a branch or key, highlight the item.

Step 3: Go to the “File” menu, then “Export”. In the window that appears, give the backup file a name. It is a good idea to include the date so that you can find it again if necessary (e.g., a copy of the Register-210722). Next, designate the folder where the file will be stored. Personally, I advise you to save it on the cloud or a USB key. Then choose “Save”.

Step 4: To use the backup and restore the Registry, open the Windows Registry Editor again, click on “File”, “Import”, then select the backup and confirm.
