How to Enable Number Pad on Keyboard Windows 10

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to enable number pad on keyboard Windows 10. The Num Lock key allows you to activate the numeric keypad of your computer. Useful if your PC has one, it happens regularly that the numeric keypad is not activated when your PC starts. This can be annoying, especially if your password contains numbers. In this tutorial, we will see how to enable the Num Lock key on the numeric keypad when starting Windows 10.

Manually enable the numeric keypad with Num Lock

As you probably know, on PCs equipped with a numeric keypad, there is a key called Num Lock that allows you to activate the numeric keys.

Pressing it will activate the numeric keypad. Often, this key is equipped with a light diode, indicating that it is activated.

After activating it, restart your PC and see if it remains activated. If it does not, proceed to the next section.

Enable the keypad at Windows 10 startup using the registry

There is a registry key that enables the keypad at Windows 10 startup. To change it, go to the Windows Registry Editor.

Step 1: Right click on the Windows Start button and choose Run.

Step 2: Type “regedit” and click on OK.

Step 3: Accept “User Account Control” with “Yes”.

Step 4: Go to HKEY_USERS > .DEFAULT > Control Panel > Keyboard.

Step 5: On the right side of the screen, double click on InitialKeyboardIndicators.

Step 6: Set the “Value data” field to “2” and confirm with OK.

Step 7: Go to Windows Desktop and right click on the background image and choose Personalize (at the bottom).

Step 8: In the window that opens, click on Lock Screen.

Step 9: Scroll down and click on the link Screen timeout settings.

Step 10: Again scroll down and click on the link Additional power settings.

Step 11: In the window “Power Options” click on Choose what the power buttons do

Step 12: Clicking on Change settings that are currently unavailable will unlock some options.

Step 13: In “Shutdown settings”, uncheck the option Turn on fast startup and click on “Save changes” button. This is certainly not “recommended” as indicated, but it is the only solution and besides a slightly slower startup, the numeric keypad will be activated every time the computer is turned on.

Step 14: Restart the computer.

Note: To go back and undo this change, return to InitialKeyboardIndicators and set the value to “0”.
