Most of the software created for previous versions of Windows works well in Windows 10, but some older applications may not work properly or even at all with the new operating system. Step 1: In the search box, enter Run programs made for previous versions of Windows, then click on its icon.
 

 
Step 2: Click Next to have the troubleshooter to detect potential problems with your applications.
 

 
Step 3: Select the application that doesn’t work and click Next.
 

 
 
Step 4: Select a troubleshooting option: use the recommended compatibility setting.
 

 
Step 5: Click on Test the program… button and then click on Next.

You can then choose to save the application settings, try different settings or report the problem to Microsoft and see online help articles.

You will need to run the troubleshooter for each application with which you have compatibility issues.
 

How to Run an Application In Compatibility Mode

You can also access an application’s properties to change its compatibility mode settings. With compatibility mode, you can force an application to use the settings of a previous version of Windows, which is useful if you know that the application worked well on Windows 7 or Vista.

Step 1: Right-click on the application and select Properties.
 


 
 
Step 2: Select the Compatibility tab, then check the box Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
 

 
Step 3: Select the Windows version to use for your application settings from the drop-down list.
 

 
Step 4: After you have selected the Windows version, now click on the Apply button and then OK. And check if the application works fine.
