In this tutorial, we are going to see how to delete the previous version of windows in Windows 10. When you upgrade to a new version of Windows 10, it keeps the old installation files. This helps you downgrade if you don’t like the new version or if you encounter problems with the new upgrade. Typically, these old Windows installation files will be between 10GB and 30GB. As you can guess, that’s a lot of hard disk space to save. So, if you are sure that you are not going to downgrade, deleting these old Windows installation files can free up some essential space.

Follow the steps below to delete the previous Windows installation files.
 

 

Method 1: How To Delete Previous Version of Windows in Windows 10 Using Setting app

Step 1: Click on the Start button at the bottom left of your screen.
 


 
Step 2: Click on Settings.
 

 
Step 3: Then go to System.
 

 
 
Step 4: Once in the system settings, click on Storage in the left pane.
 

 
Step 5: Click on Configure Storage Sense or run it now.
 

 
Step 6: Here, in the Free up space now section, check the box Delete previous version of Windows and click on the Clean Now button.
 

 
Once you click the button, Storage Sense will remove previous Windows installations. As a result, you will get 10-40 GB of free space.
 
 

Method 2: How To Delete Previous Version of Windows in Windows 10 Using Disk Cleanup

Step 1: Open the Start menu, search for Disk Cleanup and open it.
 

 
Or press Windows + R on your keyboard to open a Run dialog box. Then type cleanmgr and press Enter to open the Disk Cleanup tool.
 

 
Step 2: Once opend, select (C:) drive from the drop-down menu and click the OK button.
 

 

 
Step 3: Since old Windows installations are considered system files, click on the Clean up system files button that appears at the bottom.
 

 
Step 4: The above action will restart the disk cleaning tool. So select (C:) drive from the drop-down menu.
 

 
Step 5: Now, find Previous Windows Installation(s), check the box and click the OK button.
 

 
Step 6: You can see a confirmation window, click the Yes to continue.

Once you click the Yes button, Windows will remove the previous installations.
