In this tutorial, we are going to see how to lock screen after inactivity on Windows 10. There are different ways to easily lock Windows 10. Although it is not difficult, locking Windows 10 computer is still a manual action. If you want, you can set Windows 10 to lock automatically after inactivity. You can specify the time of inactivity as 20 minutes, 60 minutes, etc. If you are frequently away from your computer, Windows auto-lock is also very useful and secure. So, let’s see how to do it.
 

Method 1: How to Lock Screen After Inactivity Using Gpedit

Step 1: Right-click on the Start button, select Run.
 

 

 
Step 2: Type gpedit.msc and press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
 

 
Step 3: After that, navigate to the following path:

Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options

Find and double-click the Interactive logon: machine inactivity limit policy.
 

 

 
Step 4: In the policy properties window, enter the number of seconds after which you want Windows 10 PC to automatically lock. Choose the number of seconds between 1 and 599940. Click the Apply and Ok buttons to save the changes. In this tutorial, We want our computer to lock after 15 minutes, so We entered 900 in the blank field.
 

 
Step 5: To apply the changes, restart your system.

After the reboot, the policy will be applied and your computer will now automatically lock after the specified time. If you want to disable Windows 10 auto-lock, simply set the seconds value to 0 in step 4 and save the changes.
 
 

Method 2: How to Lock Screen After Inactivity Using Regedit

Step 1: To lock screen after inactivity on Windows 10. Right-click on the Start button, select Run.
 

 

 
Step 2: Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
 

 
Step 3: After that, navigate to the following Registry key:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System


 
Step 4: In the right pane, right-click on an empty space and select New -> DWORD (32 bits) value option.
 

 

 
Step 5: Name it InactivityTimeoutSecs.
 

 
Step 6: After creating the DWORD value, double-click on the value. In the Edit Value window, select the Decimal radio option and enter the number of seconds in the empty field. Make sure the number of seconds is between 1 and 599940. In this tutorial, We want our computer to lock after 15 minutes, so We entered 900 in the blank field.
 

 
Step 7: To apply the changes, restart your system.
