In this tutorial, we are going to see how to change default folder name in Windows 10. When you create a new folder, the Windows 10 operating system names it “New Folder” by default. However, if you want, you can change the default name of the newly created folder in Windows 10 with a simple Registry adjustment. Here’s how to do it.
 

How to Change Default Folder Name in Windows 10

To change the default name of a new folder in File Explorer, do the following:

Step 1: To enable registry backup in Windows 10. Right-click on the Start button, select Run.
 

 

 
Step 2: Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
 

 
Step 3: After that, navigate to the following Registry key:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer


 

 
Step 4: Create a new key named NamingTemplates. To do this, click on the Edit menu, then select New and Key.
 

 
Step 5: In the right pane of the NamingTemplates key, right click and select New and String Value.
 

 
Step 6: Name this new string value like RenameNameTemplate
 

 
 
Step 7: Then double-click on this new value to open the Edit String dialog box. In the Value data field, enter the new text you want to appear when you create a new folder, then validate with OK. In this example, We have chosen “My new folder”.
 

 
Step 8: You can now close the Registry Editor. Now when you create a new folder, it will be named “My New Folder” instead of “New Folder”.
