In this tutorial, we are going to see how to see PC startup and shutdown history in Windows 10. If you are a system administrator or simply share your computer with someone else, there may be times when you need to know the computer’s startup and shutdown history. Follow the next steps to see the reboot and shutdown history in Windows 10.

There are different ways to see when the system is turned on and off. For this specific guide, we will use the built-in Windows tool called Event Viewer.

Since there will be events that occur when you start or stop the system, all you have to do is find a specific event and look at the timestamps to find out the PC’s startup and shutdown history.

How to See PC Startup and Shutdown History in Windows 10

Step 1: First, open the Start menu, search for Event Viewer and click on it.

Step 2: In the Event Viewer application, go to Windows Logs and then System in the left panel. This is where all system events are logged.

Step 3: On the right panel, you will see a whole bunch of events that occur daily. To filter the system startup event, we can use filters. Click on the Filter current log option that appears on the right panel.

Step 4: In the next window, type 6005 in the Event ID field and click the Ok button. If you want, you can reduce the time. To do this, select a period from the drop-down menu.

Once you click the Ok button, the logs should be filtered and you should see all the startup events. Now, you won’t specifically see the event named Startup. The events are named The event log service has been started. Since the event service is started automatically when you start the system, this is the startup time.

Open the log and you will see the date and time the system was started.

you can also see the computer shutdown history. The Event Viewer automatically stops the event service when you shut down the system. Since the event is registered with a different event ID, all we have to do is to search for the event ID “6006”.

That’s All!
