Method 1: How to Change Default Apps on Windows 10

So, to choose a software for a given file, the first method consists in right-clicking on the file in question, then choosing Open with…, in order to access the list of software referenced by Windows, and finally to use More applications. Once the choice is made, you validate by checking Always use this application to open the X extension and that’s it.

 

 

Method 2: How to Change Default Apps on Windows 10

Now, in Windows 10, there is another solution that allows you to choose an application for a file, as well as the default applications, including the browser. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Click on the Start menu of Windows 10, then on Settings.
 

 
Step 2: Then go to Apps, then in the left pane click on Default Apps.
 

 
Step 3: From here you can set the default applications. In particular, you can choose the default applications (email, maps, music player, photo viewer, video player and web browser). Once you have made your choice, the choice window will close and your option will be displayed.
 

 

 
Step 4: In addition, you also have the option to choose the default applications for each file type. Search for the desired file extension, PDF, DOC, XLSX, etc. and choose a default application. Once validated, the choice is active, you can always come back to it if it does not suit you.
