Step 1: Right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager option. You can also press the keyboard shortcut CTRL + Shift + Escape to open the Task Manager.
 

 

 
Step 2: If it is not already open, click More Details.
 

 
Step 3: In the Task Manager window, go to the Details tab. Once you are in the Details tab, look for the process explorer.exe in the list.
 

 
 
Step 4: Right click on it and select End process tree.
 

 
Step 5: You will see a confirmation window. Click on the End process tree button to continue.
 

 
Step 6: At this point, your screen may go blank. Don’t worry. This is perfectly normal. We just need to restart the stopped process. So, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
 
 
Step 7: In Task Manager, select the File → Run new task option.
 

 
Step 8: The above action will open the Create New Task window. Next, type explorer.exe and click on the Ok button.
 

 
With this, you should have your desktop back.
