How to Change the Screen Refresh Rate of Your Monitor in Windows 10

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to change the screen refresh rate of your monitor in Windows 10. A few days ago, Microsoft started the deployment of the October 2020 update on Windows 10. Although a limited number of users are currently being offered the update, it is quite possible to force its installation from Windows Update.

And the new features of Windows 10 version 20H2 (its other name) include the ability to choose the refresh rate of the screens connected to your machine in the settings of the Microsoft operating system. This refresh rate, expressed in Hertz indicates the number of images that your screen is capable of displaying per second and depends primarily on your hardware. The higher the refresh rate of a screen, the more fluid the images displayed will be.

Be careful, however, changing the refresh rate depends on the specificities of the screens you use. If they only support one refresh rate, you will not be able to change this setting in Windows. If you have a screen with several refresh rates (75Hz, 144Hz, etc.), you can force Windows to use it. Here’s how to do it.

How to Change the Screen Refresh Rate of Your Monitor in Windows 10

Step 1: Click on the Start button at the bottom left of your screen.

Step 2: Click on Settings.

Step 3: Then go to System.

Step 4: From the Display section, scroll through the options and go to the Advanced Display Settings

Step 5: In the window that appears, click on the drop-down menu displayed in the Choose Display section, to select the screen on which you want to apply the change (if you have several screens connected to your PC).

Step 6: At the bottom of the window, in the Refresh Rate section, click on the drop-down menu and select the refresh rate value you wish to apply to your screen.

The affected screen should disappear and then quickly return after the setting has been applied. A pop-up asking if you want to Keep these display settings will appear in the settings window. Click Keep to save the changes.
