In this tutorial, we are going to see how to prevent copying files from USB to PC. In order to prevent someone from stealing documents from your PC to a USB flash drive or external hard drive, well, you should know that you can block the copying of documents to USB devices on your Windows computer by creating two small keys within the Windows Registry. Here’s how to do it.

How to Prevent Copying Files From USB to PC

Step 1: Right-click on the Start button, select Run.

Step 2: Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.

Step 3: After that, navigate to the following Registry key:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\

Step 4: Then create a new key Edit > New > Key and name it StorageDevicePolicies.

Step 5: Again in the Edit menu, select New then DWORD (32-bit) value and name the key like this: WriteProtect. Double-click on it and assign it the value 1 before validating.

Step 6: Now restart your computer and you’re done! Copying files to external hard drives or memory sticks is now prohibited on your computer.

Note that if you want to go back and allow copying from a USB device, set the WriteProtect key to 0.
