How to Clear Windows 10 Update Cache

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to clear Windows 10 update cache. If you are getting an error while installing a Windows 10 update or it is impossible for you to upgrade to the latest Windows 10 build, in this tutorial we will provide you with a simple solution that may help you solve your problems.

The purpose of this tutorial is to clear the Windows Update cache in order to fix problems downloading or installing Windows 10 updates.

How can clearing the Windows Update cache solve the update problems? Well, when Windows Update downloads an update, it automatically tries to install it afterward. Sometimes you may encounter one or more errors when installing updates. This usually happens when the downloaded update file is damaged or corrupted and the problem can be solved by clearing the Windows Update cache.

When the Windows Update cache is cleared, a new copy of the update that was causing the problem will download and install itself.
 

 

Fix Windows Update issues

Before clearing the Windows Update cache, did you try to solve the Windows Update problems using the troubleshooting tool provided by Windows? No? Well, let’s go!

Step 1: Type the keyword Control Panel in the Windows 10 Start menu, then press Enter.
 

 
Step 2: Once open, next to View by: at the top right of the window, select Small Icons instead of Category. Then look for the Troubleshooting setting and click on it.
 

 
Step 3: Once this is done, click on Fix problems with Windows Updat under System and Security. That’s it!

How to Clear Windows 10 Update Cache

Step 1: In the search bar, type Services. Right-click on the first result and select “Run as administrator”.
 

 
Step 2: Scroll down the list until you find Windows Update. If the Status column says Running, right-click on the Windows Update entry and click Stop.
 

 
Step 3: Open the drive where Windows 10 is installed. For example, if Windows 10 is installed on the “C” drive, open it. Then go to the following folder:

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download


 

 
Step 4: Once you are in the download folder, click on the File menu, click on Change Folder and Search Options to open the folder options.
 

 
Step 5: Under the View tab, check the Show hidden files, folders and drives box and uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) box.
 

 
Step 6: You should now see all hidden files and folders. Select all the files and folders and delete them. That’s it, the Windows Update cache is now deleted. You can repeat Step , but instead of clicking the Stop button, click the Start button.
