How to Open Files and Folders with Single Click in Windows 10

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to open files and folders with a single click instead of a double click in Windows 10.

Everyone knows how to open files and folders in Windows operating system, right? Just double-click on a file or folder to open it. On the other hand, by default, if you make a single click, you simply select the file or folder.

Most of us are used to opening files and folders with a double-click. And many of us prefer to use the keyboard to navigate to files and/or folders before opening them.

However, if you always use the mouse to open files and folders, you may consider configuring Windows 10 to open files and folders with a single click, as it will help you reduce the finger pain caused by the mouse click.

Setting up Windows 10 to always open files and folders with a single click is very easy. You can do it without installing any additional software.

How to open files and folders with a single click in Windows 10

Follow the few steps below to open files and folders with a single click in Windows 10.

Step 1: Open File Explorer. Click File, then click Change Folder and Search Options.

Step 2: From the General tab, under the Click items as follows section, select Single click to open an item (point to select). Next, you will see two options:

  • Underline icon titles consistent with my browser.
  • Underline icon titles only when I point at them.

When you select the first option, File Explorer adds an underline under each file name. The second option underlines the file name only when you point the mouse cursor at the file. This option is best for most users because it does not add any extra space.

Select one of these options, then click the Apply button to confirm. That’s it! Now, all you need is a single click to open files and folders.
