How to Hide File Extensions in Windows 10

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to hide file extensions in Windows 10. A filename extension is used by the operating system to determine which application should open the file in question. For example, the file “notes.txt” has a .txt extension that is associated with the Notepad application: this application is designated to open all .txt files.

By default, file name extensions are hidden in Windows File Explorer. Thus, a “notes.txt” file is simply displayed as “notes”.

Step 1: Search for “File explorer” in the search box in Windows.

Step 2: Click on the “View” tab in the file explorer.

Step 3: Uncheck the box next to “File Name Extensions” to hide file extensions.
