How To Limit Windows Update Bandwidth in Windows 10

Until now, all versions of Windows did not have any settings to limit the bandwidth of Windows Update. So this is the first time with Windows 10, and it’s a good thing.

Previously, if you wanted to limit the bandwidth usage of Windows Update, you had to use third-party software. But those days are over, now a ready-made feature is available in the advanced options of Windows Update.

Step 1: Start by opening the Settings. Click on the Start menu and then on the gear icon to access the Windows Settings.

Step 2: Then go to the Updates & Security menu.

Step 3: Then click on the Advanced Options.

Step 4: In the advanced options, locate the Delivery Optimization link and click on it.

Step 5: Under Delivery Optimization, click again on the Advanced Options link to access the options to limit the bandwidth of Windows Update.

Step 6: Here you are in the very advanced options of Windows Update. From there, you have three options.

  • Download settings: set the bandwidth limit for downloading updates in the background.
  • Upload settings: set the bandwidth limit for uploading updates to other PCs on the Internet.
  • Monthly upload limit: limit the upload bandwidth per month.

If you have disabled the option to share updates to other PCs on your local network or on the Internet, you can ignore the upload settings as they are useless.

Step 7: To set the bandwidth limit for downloading updates, check the small box (see below), then move the slider to the left to decrease the bandwidth or to the right to increase it. That is all!
