Bus Topology Advantages and Disadvantages

In this tutorial, we are going to see the Bus Topology Advantages and Disadvantages. A bus topology is the simplest type of network organization. Indeed, in a bus topology, all the computers are connected to the same transmission line through a cable, usually coaxial. The word “bus” refers to the physical line that connects the machines in the network.

This topology has the advantage of being easy to implement and simple to operate. On the other hand, it is extremely vulnerable since if one of the connections is faulty, the whole network is affected.
 

Advantages of Bus Topology:
  • Very easy to set up: a single dorsal cable.
  • Not expensive
  • Easy to connect a new unit

 

Disadvantages of Bus Topology:
  • Only one node/computer can send a signal at a time.
  • If the medium fails, the entire network fails.
