What is Repeater in Networking?
In this tutorial, we are going to see What is Repeater in networking?
On a transmission line, the longer the distance between two active elements, the greater the distortion and attenuation of the signal. Generally, two nodes in a local network cannot be more than a few hundred meters apart, which is why additional equipment is required beyond that distance.
A Repeater is a simple piece of equipment that regenerates a signal between two network nodes to extend the cabling distance of a network. The Repeater works only at the physical level (layer 1 of the OSI model), i.e. it works only at the level of the binary information circulating on the transmission line and it is not able to interpret the information packets.
On the other hand, a Repeater can make it possible to provide an interface between two physical media of different types, which means that it can, for example, make it possible to connect a segment of twisted pair to a strand of optical fiber.
