Tree Topology Advantages and Disadvantages

In this tutorial, we are going to see the Tree Topology Advantages and Disadvantages.

The tree topology, also called tree branching, appears to be an economical solution since you need little media (cables) and infrastructure (switches); unmanaged switches can be used to deploy this tree topology. This tree branching solution is also very efficient for determinism (jumping to each device).

Unlike some industrial network topologies, the tree topology does not support redundancy and has a single point of failure; that is, if a cable is damaged or cut, communication is lost only to the connected device.

It combines the characteristics of bus and star topologies.

Also called hierarchical network. A tree topology is made up of interconnected buses.

Advantage: Well suited for large computer networks because the entire network is divided into parts and is, therefore, easier to manage.

Disadvantage: The entire network is dependent on central elements and a failure of these elements can paralyze the entire network.
