Example of MAN

In this tutorial, we are going to see some examples of MAN network in real life. MANs (Metropolitan Area Networks) interconnect several geographically close LANs (a few tens of kilometers at maximum) at high speeds. Thus a MAN allows two distant nodes to communicate as if they were part of the same local network.

A MAN is made up of switches or routers interconnected by high-speed links (usually fiber optics).

The Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a network that interconnects users located in the same geographical area (for example cities or Smart territories). This network generally uses fiber optic technology.

For example, big universities sometimes use this term to describe their networks. Currently, the trend is toward wireless metropolitan area networks(WMAN).
